Helping the victims.
Monday, October 10, 2005

I was really upset last evening then I checked my Orkut to find a message from Rabiya saying that a truck will be going to PAF museum from IBA tomorrow (which emans today since it was yesterday) and that we should all bring one pack of biscuits and one blanket. I took it upon myself to pass the message on and bought myself credit and started telling anyoen and everyone I could to bring clothes, blankets, food stuff, medicines etc for the earthquake victims. The word soon spread around and then Falak smsed Natasha saying that donations for kafans are needed as well cuz there aren't enough to bury the dead in. It made me cry so much.

Anyway, this morning started out very nicely with a little spot set aside in the parking lot where people were dumping the stuff they had brought. Here's a little picture of how it looked early morning..

By afternoon, it was much more than triple of this :) Me and the junior Qaiser - Qaiser Sajid.. took it upon ourselves to go around in each and every class and ask for donations and inform them that a truck will be going to PAF museum tomorrow so they can bring their donations to IBA. At the end of the day when we counted money, we had collected over 40 thousand rupees :))) I was so proud of myself and all other fellow IBAians who made the effort and contributed in every little way to this 40 thousand. We're hoping to collect the same amount tomorrow hopefully, if not more.

After IBA, we went to PAF museum around 3.30 pm where all the donations are being collected and it was one of the msot wodnerful feelings ever. Anyone and everyone you could think of was there. From the long bearded mullahs to full primped up kittypartytype aunties in their milano heels and versace sunglasses.... From stupid bimbos who didn't know better and wore tiny, tiny tops to really supposedly maila guys who would otherwise drool at these girls. But today, the kittypartytype aunties were working alongside everyone else putting away for ocne their ohi'msogodforallthis attitude and not even wincing when they had to catch heavy aantey ki boris... As for the guys, they didn't even glance at the girls but treated them just like sisters. It was as if we're all one big family and everyone was talking to everyone else as if they've known each other forever. Everyone was going out of their way to help others and show others what to do and how to do it.

It's so amazing how, at times like these, we become so united. I can honestly say that I have never been this proud of Pakistan in my whole life.. and THAT is a big thing coming from li'l ol' patriotic me.

I just hope all this we are doing is enough. Everyone all over the city is donating blood. Cars are overstuffed with things to donate and making their way to PAF museum. I'm hoping against hope it's enough. Dear God, please let it be enough. Please let everyone who has survived pull through with as less discomfort as possible.
