scotty doesn't know. Sunday, November 26, 2006
when rishtas from america and uk, from engineers and doctors alike, somehow find their way to your parents.. when Big Corporate Guy from Big MNC subtley hints a Marriage Proposal.. do you realize you've reached That Age.
if i'm old enough, why haven't i found myself... yet?

those friendly warm eyes and the pan stained teeth constatly chewing chaalia, hidden almostbutnotquite behind that prickly nottooshort nottoolong jet black beard. the oncwhite shalwar kameez turn offwhite/khaki/lightbrownigh/grayish by the constant use and reuse - he always had time for me. those jar type containers with the grimy colorful caps - sometimes shocking pink, sometimes parrot green, some lemon yellow.. the were always neon and noticeable in spite of the grime. the endless jars filled with endlss magic. the homemade biscuits, the endless fanty, the gaey wali toffee, and the suckable cola candy. but never any lollipops. i'd always look forward to those sunday trips to dadi's house.. the highlight being the visit to the shop. once the salams and things were done, i'd run to the shop with a purple 2 rupee note clutched in my fist. such high involvement decision making, contemplating for the longest time how to get the most out of my money whilst being entertained by his endless, wonderful stories. asking him to open jar by jar by jar, one of this toffee, one of that toffee. plskthx. picking out the countless 4aaney and 8aaney wali candies and once gathered all of 2 rs worth i'd hand him that purple note. he always, without fail, refused to take the money from me. i'd skip back to dadi's house, several candies richer and the money still clutched in my hand. my treasure man, full of endless magic.
i haven't seen you in years. i don't know how time has changed you. i somehow can't imagine that jet black hair turned to gray/white or the shinybrownskin turned wrinkly. this time, when i went after countless years, the shop wasn't there anymore - it was just a bunch of men playing pool around a pool table where there used to be those endless, magical jars. i haven't felt that much sense of loss in a very long time. i was so tempted to walk into that gali where you once took me to buy phool jharian and show me your family, i still remember your mother - that old lady wearing the graywhite crumpled saari. i wanted to go there and see you.
but i realized you never told me the way.
classic kiranism. Wednesday, November 15, 2006
asad says neologism means making new words. it also, incidentally, happens to be one of the symptoms of schizophrenia. there's nothing as fun as making up new words. but then, it's a learned art of the hice and the shoop.there are two categories of madeup words - the good ones, and the bad ones. there's minglish - across between urdu and english, mix of the sorts. and then there's chillax. those two are perfect examples of words made in highly bad taste. c'mon, why would you need a cross between chill and relax when they are essentially similar having similar connotations. there are much nicer words, made for actual want of a word. when one says sheep, you never know if it's singular or plural.. why not apply the goose geese concept and a singular could be called shoop. again, applying the mice mouse rule results in hice which sounds so much better and natural then houses anyway. when you talk about a guy hitting on you in past tense, it sounds wrong when you say he hit on me. grammatically displeasing. you could easily say he hat on me. then there are several others.. like inspiratious, stupud, speack, oomph. heh. who woulda thunk?

A Kentucky statute states, "No female shall appear in a bathing suit on any highway within this state unless she is escorted by at least two officers or unless she be armed with a club." Later, an amendment proposed: "The provisions of this statute shall not apply to any female weighing less than sixty pounds nor exceeding 200 pounds; nor shall it apply to female horses."

curly hair and pink. Saturday, November 04, 2006
curly hair has a way of making you feel girly. twirling curls around fingers and the straightened bangs making a hazy curtain the line of vision. the pink scarf with the many colorful threads and the bling sequiny, beady slippers. the giggle that comes naturally when feeling uber girly.. the slight sway in the walk. the shaking of head in the halfshake to toss hair over the shoulder - something so seductive and bollywood movieish about it. and hollywood movieish when driving and cars pulls on the side.. the slight turn of the head but not quite, the half glance.. and look away.
who said women don't have the power?
randomness and then some.
